Laminated 3.5"x 3.5" walnut post used as the foundation of an interior railing and to terminate a handrail.

Walnut is dull, hard, thick and tight-grained. It's valued by carpenters for its solidarity, grain and shading. It finishes to an exceptionally smooth completion, and the shading goes from velvety white in the sapwood to a dim chocolate in the heartwood. It is straight-grained, however it can now and then have waves or twists
